Villanova is finally on the board in the class of 2024, landing the commitment of 6-8 forward Matthew Hodge. Hodge is currently ranked 132nd in his class. He chose Villanova over Maryland, Marquette, Penn State and Seton Hall.
Originally from Belgium, Hodge plays his high school ball at St. Rose in New Jersey.
Hodge has good strength for a player his age, something that should be helpful as he makes his transition to the college game. He has active hands and appears to be a willing defender. Offensively, he can score by slashing to the basket and finishing with either hand, use his strength to play with his back to the basket or step out to the three-point line, where he has a very smooth shot. There's a lot to like about the fit between Hodge and Villanova.
In addition to the benefits of adding a talented player, the importance of getting on the board in the 2024 class and breaking the clog that had seemingly developed in the recruiting pipeline can't be overstated.
