More (expected) news on the roster front, as Jalen Brunson has announced he will forego his senior season at Villanova and enter the NBA Draft, following teammate Mikal Bridges.

Brunson announced his decision via a letter published on ESPN.com titled “A Message to My Villanova Family.”

He is coming off one of the best seasons in program history and will leave the Main Line as one of the most decorated Wildcats of all-time.

Brunson averaged 18.9 points, 4.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds on 52.1% shooting and 40.8% from three while leading Villanova to its second national championship in three years. He swept the National Player of the Year awards and added the Big East Player of the Year as well.

In addition to his National POY honors and Big East POY award, Brunson leaves Villanova with those two national championships, two Big East regular season championships and two Big East tournament championships.

Brunson’s ability to score from all three levels, find his teammates, and to remain steady regardless of what was happening on the court around him were invaluable. His ability to fill big shoes, first by taking over the point guard reigns from Ryan Arcidiacono and then full on leadership responsibilities from Josh Hart, Kris Jenkins, and Darryl Reynolds was incredibly impressive. Brunson joined an ascending program and played a major role in getting it over the top and helping it maintain that level.

It feels like we say this a lot about recent Villanova basketball players, but Brunson was a joy to watch. He is as sound and smart a basketball player you will ever see, and he left an indelible mark on the Villanova program and on the entire college game.

We would like to thank Jalen for his many contributions to Villanova basketball and to congratulate him on an incredible career, as well as wish him the best of luck in the next chapter of his journey.
