For the sixth straight time, the United States claimed gold at the FIBA U18 Americas Championships. This time around, the team was helped to the feat by a pair of incoming Wildcats.

Cam Whitmore stole the show in Mexico, claiming tournament MVP honors after averaging 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds. He shot a whopping 70.6% on his two-point attempts and 10-22 (45.5%) from 3. Whitmore produced a 30-point, 12-rebound double-double in the gold medal game against Brazil, shooting 8-10 overall and 4-8 from 3. The future Wildcat produced his share of highlights along the way as well.

While Whitmore's MVP showing garnered headlines, Mark Armstrong had an excellent showing at the event as well. The point guard averaged 10.7 points and 3.8 assists while shooting 45% from 3. He also committed just eight turnovers over the course of the event, producing a nearly 3-to-1 assist to turnover ratio.

In the course of claiming gold, the team qualified for next year's FIBA U19 World Cup.

The duo, along with fellow incoming freshman Brendan Hausen, was already generating excitement. After seeing Whitmore and Armstrong on the floor together, there is even more to look forward to in the 2022-23 season.
