Some scheduling news Wednesday as the Big East and Big Ten have confirmed the matchups and dates for the 2023 Gavitt Tipoff Games.

Villanova will host Maryland at Finneran Pavilion on November 17. The matchup comes with some excellent built-in storylines.

One, of course, is that the Terrapins are coached by former Big East foe Kevin Willard, who coached 12 seasons at Seton Hall. The other is Villanova's Hakim Hart will get a chance to face his old team after transferring from Maryland this offseason.

Maryland went 22-13 a season ago, earning an 8-seed in the NCAA Tournament, where the Terrapins lost to No. 1 seed Alabama in the Round of 32. Maryland boasted a top-30 defense in 2022-23, holding opponents to 63.5 points per game.

The Terrapins finished the season ranked No. 23 in KenPom (36 in offensive efficiency, 32 in defensive efficiency).

This should be an interesting matchup which, as we mentioned, will have plenty of pregame storylines and which should be a nice addition to Villanova's resume.
