On Wednesday, Villanova announced the signing of three verbal commitments in its 2022 recruiting class to National Letters of Intent, making the commitments official and setting the players up to join the Wildcats next fall.

Guards Mark Armstrong (No. 42 in the class) and Brendan Hausen (No. 39) and forward Cam Whitmore (No. 22) are set to bring a strong 2022 class to the Main Line.

“We’re excited to welcome Mark, Brendan and Cam to the Villanova family,” Jay Wright said.

All three prospects enjoyed excellent summers, with their strong play resulting in significant jumps in their rankings.

Armstrong, a 6-2 point guard out of New Jersey, jumped 11 spots in the most recent update to the 2022 Rivals150. Throughout the summer, analysts have touted his fit at Villanova. Armstrong averaged 14.1 points per game last season before his strong summer play. He was the first member of Villanova's 2022 class, verbally committing in April.

“Mark is part of a wonderful family that we’re happy to welcome to Villanova,” Wright said. “As a consummate point guard, Mark really understands how to run a team. He makes everyone on the team around him better. We believe he has what it takes to become a great Villanova guard.”

Hausen, a 6-5 shooting guard out of Texas, burst onto the scene this summer while building a reputation as one of the best shooters in the class. He skyrocketed his way into the Rivals150, going from unranked all the way to No. 39. Hausen averaged 17.6 ppg as a junior while knocking down 90 3-pointers. He committed to Villanova in September.

“Brendan is a pure shooter, tough competitor, and proven winner,” Wright said. “As we got to know Brendan and his great family through the recruiting process, we saw a young man who brings all the qualities we value in a Villanova Basketball player. We’re fired up to have Brendan at Villanova.”

Not to be outdone, Whitmore, a 6-6 forward out of Maryland, secured the second-biggest jump of any prospect in the most recent update of the 2022 Rivals150. Whitmore jumped 79 spots to No. 22. After averaging 22 points and 11.7 rebounds last season, Whitmore was named the Baltimore Catholic League Player of the Year. He committed to Villanova in September.

“Cam comes from a wonderful family that we have enjoyed getting to know,” Wright stated. “Cam really fits Villanova. On the court, he has the skills and talent to become a complete player who does everything well. We’re extremely excited to welcome Cam to the Villanova Basketball Family.”

Rivals currently ranks Villanova's 2022 class as the ninth-best in the country. Regardless of the ranking, it's a strong class and there is a lot to like about the way each of these players fits in not only with what Villanova does but also the way they fit with and compliment each other. The future continues to look bright at Villanova.
