Nova draws Iowa State in PKI opener

We got some more scheduling news on Monday afternoon as the opening matchups for the Phil Knight Invitational were released. Villanova will face Iowa State in the opener of the event.

The Cyclones finished the 2021-22 season with a 22-13 record. They started the season 12-0, including a run to the NIT Season Tip-Off title with wins over Xavier and Memphis. Iowa State earned an 11-seed in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Sweet 16 with wins over 6-seed LSU and 3-seed Wisconsin before falling to 10-seed Miami. The Cyclones went 5-7 against top 25 opponents in 2021-22.

The other first round matchups at the PKI include North Carolina vs. Portland, UConn vs. Oregon and Alabama vs. Michigan State.

Villanova-Iowa State is scheduled as the second first round matchup with a 3:30 p.m. tip time on November 24.

The semifinals and first consolation game are scheduled for November 25 with consolation game No. 2 tipping at 12:30 a.m. on November 26. The championship game is set for November 27 at 10 p.m., with the third place game tipping at 3:30.

North Carolina, Oregon, Alabama and UConn are all ranked in ESPN's Way Too Early Top 25 for the 2022-23 season.
