We got some more details on the 2022-23 non-conference schedule on Tuesday afternoon as details where released about the the sixth edition of the Never Forget Tribute Classic.
The game will take place on December 10 and will tip at 5 p.m. It will air on Fox, and tickets will go on sale September 1.
It will be the second time Villanova takes part in the event, having earned a 74-66 win over Notre Dame in 2016.
“We had the opportunity to take part in the 2016 Never Forget Tribute Classic against Notre Dame,” head coach Kyle Neptune said in a release. “That was an amazing experience for our team honoring the families of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks while playing in an awesome environment at Prudential Center. We're looking forward to returning in December to face one of Villanova's great former Big East rivals, Boston College."
It will be the 79th meeting between the old Big East rivals, with Villanova holding a 54-24 edge in the all-time series. The last meeting between the teams was in 2020, a 76-67 win for the Wildcats.
“We are looking forward to facing our long-time rival Villanova as part of the Never Forget Tribute Classic,” Boston College coach Earl Grant. said “It will be a great opportunity to play in front of all our passionate fans and alumni in the metropolitan area.”
Boston College finished 13-20 in 2021-22 but made a run to the ACC quarterfinals and narrowly missed a trip to the semifinals after a two-point overtime loss to Miami. The Eagles return four starters from last year's team and add one of the best recruiting classes in program history, a class that includes Prince Aligbe (4-star, No. 77 in class) and Donald Hand Jr. (4-stars, No. 121 in class).
The Classic will benefit a 9/11 charity that will be named in the coming weeks.
