Villanova recruiting took a surprising turn on Thursday with the commitment of Bulgarian guard Aleksandar Gavalyugov. ESPN's Jonathan Givony was the first to report the news.
Gavalyugov recently averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 assists and five rebounds per game at the Adidas EuroCamp Tournament.
The 6-2 guard is a crafty dribbler who can hit layups in traffic and knock down jumpers with a hand in his face. He has range out to the three-point line and is an adept passer.
The 18-year-old is a graduate of the NBA Global Academy in Australia.
Gavalyugov joins the 2024 recruiting class with Matthew Hodge, Josiah Moseley and Malcolm Thomas. It would appear he will have an opportunity to carve out playing time immediately, and it will be interesting to see what he brings to the table.
