More on Lowrys Announcement

As VUSports.com reported earlier today, 5'10 Point Guard Kyle Lowry,
a Senior at Philadelphia's Cardinal Dougherty High School, held a press
conference today at Cardinal Dougherty to announce that he will attend
Villanova University. He will join
the Villanova backcourt for the 2004-05 season.

event.
Wearing his Tim Thomas Playaz AAU hoops program jacket, the talented McDonald's All-American candidate spoke quietly at first about how
difficult his decision was and how much pressure he felt to make a decision
given the frequency at which he was posed the question "where are you
going". When it came time to
make his declaration, he reached into a bag under the table and placed a
Villanova cap on his head and stated his decision to become a Wildcat.
As if a weight had been removed off his back, Lowry began to speak more
loudly and confidently and he fielded a variety of questions.
When asked when he had made the decision, Lowry said "this morning …
when I woke up I had a gut feeling … it felt real great".

His mother confirmed the timing and secrecy of Kyle's decision saying
that she didn't know of his decision until the press conference.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> A significant factor in his decision was
geography. Lowry spoke of his
strong family ties and the advantage of playing close to home - so that the
harshest "critic" of his game, his brother, could see the majority
of his games.
His teammates were also in attendance for the event - including 6'8"
Junior Forward Shane Clark who
recently announced that he too would be attending Villanova.
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Lowry mentioned "he was in my ear
a lot" when he was asked if Clark influenced his
decision.
Lowry later expressed that he was looking forward to "learning behind

normal'>Allan Ray" when asked if he had any reservations about a potential
lack of playing time as a Freshman trying to fit into a already well loaded
Villanova backcourt.
Asked about how he would describe his game to someone who hasn't seen
him play, Lowry said "winner … simple as that, a winner".
The 'Nova Nation hopes that the addition of Lowry to the Villanova
family will lead to plenty of winning on the court.
