Villanova's woes on the recruiting trail continued this weekend as a key target committed to another school and another cut 'Nova from his list.

The trouble started Saturday afternoon when 2024 SF Billy Richmond cut the list of schools he is considering to eight and didn't include Villanova. Richmond will choose between Kentucky, Memphis, Miami, Texas, Kansas, LSU, Louisville and Alabama. Richmond, a four-star prospect, is currently ranked 38th in the class.

Things got worse Saturday night, when four-star shooting guard Sir Mohammed announced his commitment to Notre Dame. Mohammed chose the Fighting Irish over Villanova, Virginia Tech, Stanford and Marquette. He is currently ranked 57th in the class.

The number of misses in the 2024 class is reaching alarming levels, as 'Nova has now seen Mohammed, Richmond, Christian Bliss, Thomas Sorber, Lathan Sommerville, Caleb Williams, Isaiah Abraham, Daquan Davis, Boogie Fland and Marcus Allen either commit elsewhere or cut Villanova from contention.

A plethora of 2024 offers remain in play (Jalil Bethea, Bryson Tucker, Jaiden Glover, Curtis Givens III, Malcolm Thomas, Tyler Betsey, Josiah Moseley, Matthew Hodge), but the track record so far with the 2024 class (and the 2023 class) is less than encouraging.

A commitment from someone like Bethea or Tucker would instantly change the narrative on the 2024 class, and that group of remaining offers could certain produce a very, very good class. However, Saturday's developments continued a concerning trend. It's still (relatively) early in the cycle, but so far it seems like the good work that Kyle Neptune and staff have done has failed to produce results.

For a program seeking some stability and normalcy, Saturday's events only added more uncertainty and concern.
