Collin Gillespie was named preseason Big East Player of the Year at Tuesday's conference media day, but he wasn't the only Wildcat to get some recognition. Teammates Jermaine Samuels and Justin Moore were named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Samuels returns for a fifth year at Villanova after improving steadily in each of his first four seasons on campus. Last year, he averaged 12 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 48.1% from the floor, 37.1% from three and 82.8% from the free throw line. He'll join Gillespie in providing invaluable experience and leadership for the 'Cats this season.
Moore is one of several potential breakout candidates on this year's Villanova team and a player that will be leaned on heavily going into his junior year. As a sophomore, Moore averaged 12.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and three assists. He connected on 44.1% of his field goal attempts and shot 77.8% from the line. He will be a key component for the Wildcats as they look to meet lofty expectations.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see either of these players end up on the conference's First Team at the end of the season, but for now they get some deserved recognition on the Second Team.
