Nova Trounces Towson: 78-44

Villanova used pressure defense and improved deep shooting to jump out to a quick, early lead against Towson and never look back. 'Nova was up 14 points ten minutes in, 22 points at the half, 29 points thirty minutes in and 39 with 3:41 remaining in the game before emptying the bench. The 78-44 win for the Cats was the direct result of a tenacious, consistent Villanova effort from the tip to the final buzzer.

'Nova was led by 20 points from James Bell and double-figure scoring efforts from Darrun Hilliard, Ryan Arcidiacono and JayVaughn Pinkston.

The Cats move to 3-0 on for the year and tip off against Delaware on Friday, November 22nd at 7:00 at the Pavilion on Fox Sports 1.

First Half 3PFG shooting: 6-14 (42.9%)

2nd Half FT shooting: 12-15 (80%)

20 points and 8 rebounds off the bench

The first half marked the fourth consecutive half in which the Cats scored 42 or more points - the streak ended in the 2nd half

Areas of Concern:

Rebounding

Player Notes:

James Bell: Another strong all-around game from Bell. He had a highlight reel put-back dunk and was the most significant offensive factor in the Cats breaking the game open early. Shot the three well, made a strong finish at the rim in transition and was strong defensively and rebounding.

Darrun Hilliard: Continues to play under control on offense while playing solid on the defensive end of the floor as well. He had a negative A/TO ratio but stroked the three-ball well.

Ryan Arcidiacono: Played his most effective floor game of the season to date. Dished out three assists without any turnovers and grabbed two steals. Chipped in a little on the glass and seemed to locate his shooting touch. Scored 5 of his 12 points at the FT line.

JayVaughn Pinkston: Though he made a couple of highlight, power moves and dropped in 12 points, turnovers and personal fouls limited his overall effectiveness.

Daniel Ochefu: When it comes to defending and rebounding, Ochefu is progressing nicely and contributing in a positive manner. Offensively, his highlights continue to be the occasional nice pass for an assist or an open dunk. In this game, Ochefu attempted several jumpers from outside 12 feet without any success. He also attempted to finish in the low post against multiple defenders and came up empty there as well. Going up quickly, with strength and with both hands on the ball in traffic is a skill Ochefu needs to develop rapidly. 2-10 FG shooting for a 5-man is highly inefficient offense.

Tony Chennault: A quality outing for the Senior guard. In a first half sequence, Chennault missed a jumper, grabbed the rebound and missed the follow-up but that was about the extent of his miscues. He posted a 5 Assist, 0 Turnover, 2 Steal performance and was all over the glass with 7 rebounds to go with 7 points. Chennault played solid on-the-ball defense as well. One of the best 24 minutes of play in a Villanova uniform for Chennault.

Josh Hart: Seven points, three rebounds and a steal in 14 minutes of action. Stroked an in-rhythm, corner three-ball and had an athletic, jam in transition for his two made FGs. Gets after loose balls and rebounds with aggression.

Kris Jenkins: His defensive effort and results were improved over what he showed the first couple games. Knocked down a three-ball and demonstrated a nice stroke at the FT line. Jenkins grabbed 5 boards and appeared more active as acclimates himself to the college game.

Darryl Reynolds: The Frosh, forward played a decent ten minutes of basketball. He chipped in defensively and even dished out his first career assist.

Henry Lowe: Two minutes of action. Didn't dent the box-score.

Nick McMahon: Handled the ball well in a five minute stint. McMahon just missed knocking down a wing three-pointer.

Patrick Farrell: Got a three minute run courtesy of the Wildcat blow-out.
