Villanova Media Day (Pt. 1)

Daniel Ochefu:

VUSports: What have you most improved about your game since last spring in order to prepare for a larger role on the team this season?

Ochefu: Just focusing more on defensive rebounding, offensive rebounding, and my offensive moves. Post moves, back-to-the-basket, and shooting. My free-throw shooting as well.

VUSports: Are you confident in your ability to defend and rebound aggressively this season without getting into foul trouble?

Ochefu: Yes. I think that because our guards do such a good job of rebounding the ball it takes the toll off of me but at the end of the day, I'm the biggest guy on the floor for us so I have to be kind of like the enforcer out there and I think I can do that effectively this year.

VUSports: What are you doing to develop more of a scorer's mentality you seem to frequently think pass first?

Ochefu: When I get the ball in the post it is about knowing where the defense is and knowing where I could get a good shot up while at the same time, if the help comes, still being able to give a good pass. Instead of thinking about the pass first it is about being more aggressive and forcing them to stop me from scoring. If they try to stop me I can always give a nice assist though.

VUSports: What will Villanova fans find to be the most surprising difference between your play this season vs. last?

Ochefu: My composure on the court. I'm a lot more comfortable with our system defensively and offensively.

Josh Hart:

VUSports: What has been the most difficult part of adjusting to college life at Villanova?

Hart: Coming out here [The court of the Davis Center practice facility] and getting all the concepts. You can always play hard, run, defend, and play together with your team but learning all the concepts is hard at first. Also, the physicality of the Big East. Playing against James Bell my first couple weeks was tough. I wasn't used to having someone all up in me pressuring the ball whenever I got the ball. That was one of the biggest things that was a shock to me.

VUSports: How has Coach Wright defined your role to you?

Hart: Kind of as a glue guy an energy guy coming off the bench doing the little things like getting a rebound, diving on the floor for a loose ball, taking charges, defending doing all the little things. That is my role right now.

VUSports: What has been the most pleasant surprise about life at Villanova?

Hart: I knew the community was close and welcoming but I didn't know the extent of it. When we are out on campus everyone talks to us. Everyone is really friendly. Coming from Sidwell Friends, where it is welcoming but kind of closed, I find that here everyone is outgoing, loose and not uptight. That is something I really love about it.

VUSports: What about your game will most surprise Villanova fans?

Hart: How hard I play. Whenever I am on the court I want to be the hardest working player and do everything I need to do to help us win. I am going to take no plays off.

VUSports: That should make you a fan favorite at Villanova.

Hart: Hopefully!

Darryl Reynolds:

VUSports: What has been the most difficult part of adjusting to college life at Villanova?

Reynolds: I don't think there are too many difficult parts. We get a lot of help with everything we do. They kind of help us along with everything and the summer really prepped us for a lot of the things we have to deal with after Orientation.

VUSports: Being from the Philly area, have you given any thought to how it will feel to take the court at Wells Fargo Center for the first time in a Villanova uniform?

Reynolds: Oh I can't wait. I can't wait. I think that is probably the best part about being at home. Everybody is here and everybody can see me play.

VUSports: What has been the most pleasant surprise about life at Villanova?

Reynolds: I didn't know Hoops Mania was this big and exciting. I didn't know there was so much going on. I am really pumped for this Friday.

VUSports: What are the strengths of your game?

Reynolds: I rebound, I run the floor, I play hard.

VUSports: I imagine that is exactly what Coach Wright wants from you?

Reynolds: Definitely!

Nick McMahon:

VUSports: Have you ever gotten the urge to just walk into Jay's office and demand starters minutes?

McMahon: Ha Ha yes it has crossed my mind. No I'm just kidding. I know my role on the team and I accept it and I love doing it. I love watching these guys play and I do my thing in practice and root for the best.
