Cats Clip Hawks
JayVaughn Pinkston led the way with 16 points and 8 assists as Villanova took care of business at Monmouth with an 83-56 win on Saturday evening. The Wildcats put forth a consistent effort on both ends of the court for the majority of the game - shooting the lights out on offense and forcing numerous Hawk turnovers on the defensive end.
Balanced offense featuring four double-figure scorers
Defense forced 23 turnovers
37 bench points

Arcidiacono was a bit sloppy with the ball at the beginning of each half as he struggled to make good decisions against the Monmouth pressure defense. He was unable to do much off the dribble-drive against the Monmouth defense but did a nice job of spotting up for open three-point opportunities.
24 Min, 2-3 FG, 1-1 3PFG, 5-7 FT, 2 Reb, 0 Asst, 3 TO, 2 Stl, 0 Blk, 10 Pts
Hilliard was effective creating some offense off the dribble in this game but was somewhat shaky with his passing on the perimeter.
24 Min, 4-7 FG, 2-2 3PFG, 6-6 FT, 3 Rebs, 8 Asst, 2 TO, 0 Blk, 1 Stl, 16 Pts
Pinkston was clearly the MVP for the Cats in this game. He was very efficient on the offensive end of the floor and solid defensively. He had a career-high eight assists to go with a pair of made three-balls and some interior scoring to boot.
29 Min, 4-7 FG, 4-6 3PFG, 3-4 FT, 5 Rebs, 1 Asst, 5 TOs, 1 Blk, 0 Stl, 15 Pts
Stroked the three-pointer with authority. Chipped in on the glass but struggled with turnovers and some inconsistent defense.
12 Min, 1-2 FG, 4-4 FT, 2 Rebs, 0 Asst, 0 TO, 1 Blk, 1 Stl, 6 Pts
Yarou continues to disappear slowly off the PT map as the season progresses. Made a smooth mid-range J and got to the line off some action in the paint.
18 Min, 3-4 FG, 3-3 3PFG, 2-2 FTs, 1 Rebs, 1 Stl, 2 Asst., 1 TOs, 11 Pts
Not many expected to see Chennault have a game with three made three-point field goals - let alone three on three attempts … but Chennault did just that and added to it with a solid floor game and some improved defense.
19 Min, 3-6 FG, 0-0 FT, 4 Rebs, 1 Asst., 3 TO, 2 Blks, 2 Stl, 6 Pts
His turnovers came out of overzealousness as he tried a little too hard to make a great move or pass. But that boundless energy is what makes Sutton such a positive contributor on defense and on the boards.
21 Min, 0-0 FG, 0-0 3PFG, 2-4 FTs, 5 Reb, 1 Asst, 1 TO, 2 Blk, 1 Stl, 2 Pts
Another strong rebounding effort from Ochefu after a career game in his last outing. He appears to be slowly gaining in confidence - though it doesn't show up in the form of demanding the ball on offense it does show up in his aggressiveness rebounding the ball and on the defensive end. He has improved in his understanding of where Coach Wright expects him to be on defense.
21 Min, 3-5 FG, 2-4 3PFG, 0-0 FTs, 3 Rebs, 0 Asst, 1 Stl, 1 TO, 8 Pts
Continues to play some good ball on both ends of the floor.
3 Min, 0-2 FG, 0-1 3PFG, 2 Rebs
Took the first two FG attempts of his Villanova career - missing his first three-ball and two-ball.
