Villanova's sophomore point guard, Ryan Arcidiacono spoke with VUSports.com at the 2013-14 Big East Media day on Wednesday:
VUSports: How will you and Dylan Ennis mesh together on the court?
Ryan Arcidiacono: I think we can both play either guard spot but I will probably play most of the point guard and he will play off-the-ball because that is where we are best suited to play. He is a slasher and a shooter. I am excited for him to get back on the court. I think Coach Wright has got something in store for all of us guards to play us a certain way but certain match-ups against certain teams will determine how we play together and for how many minutes.
VUSports: Do you feel more comfortable playing with Darrun Hilliard now with a year's experience under your belt?
Ryan Arcidiacono: It is going to be great because I have a year's experience playing with everybody and we are comfortable playing with each other. I am excited about developing that relationship with Dylan, Josh Hart, Kris Jenkins and Darryl Reynolds too. I'm excited to play this year because playing with a year's experience and a after a year of getting better from my surgery will really help me out. I am in a lot better shape than I was last year.
VUSports: What was the most satisfying moment for you personally last season?
Ryan Arcidiacono: I was excited making the NCAA Tournament. Honestly, I don't care how many points or assists I have all that matters is that we win games. I couldn't care less if I shoot terrible or shoot great. I just want to win games. It is the team accolades I was excited about last year such as winning a game in the Big East Tournament and making the NCAA Tournament. Those were the biggest moments for me.
VUSports: Did your eyes light up the first time you saw Kris Jenkins shoot the ball, thinking "I can't wait to play some pick-and-roll with him"?
Ryan Arcidiacono: Yeah. Definitely. He is a match-up nightmare. He really shoots the ball well and I am excited for him to be on the court because he can stretch the floor for us and he shoots the ball very well.
VUSports: What was it like taking the court for the first time in an NCAA Tournament?
Ryan Arcidiacono: I tried to think of it as just another game but there was a different feel to it. I was excited about it because Villanova hadn't been in the Tournament the previous season and because it was my first time as well as the first time for many of the guys on my team. It was a good feeling.
VUSports: What do you think of Darryl Reynolds and Josh Hart so far?
Ryan Arcidiacono: Josh is coming along and so is Darryl. They both have certain skill sets that are going to help us out this year. Josh is just a winner. He will do anything it takes or make any play needed to help us win a game. He shoots the ball well and he drives it and rebounds well. Darryl is strong on the inside and he rebounds the ball well. He has to develop a bit more but he is coming along really well. I am excited about both of them.
VUSports: How is Daniel Ochefu's offensive game progressing?
Ryan Arcidiacono: He is doing well. He is working extra ? probably more than anyone this season. We need him to score down low. We need him to rebound. I am excited about his development as well because he too is really coming along.
VUSports: He is more of a pass-first Center and is more effective from the high post ? how do you get him to just go to the rim with the confidence you'll get the ball to him?
Ryan Arcidiacono: He needs to have the mentality to think about scoring all the time and that is actually something that we all have to have because if the opposition doesn't fear our shot then they will sag off of us and deny everyone else.
VUSports: Thanks Ryan, best of luck this season.
